Balancing act - the increased demand for flexible and remote working
Extract: "Although the terms work-life balance and flexible working
did not enter our vocabulary until the start of this century, the practices are
now relatively widespread, particularly following the increased adoption of technologies
such as laptop computers and broadband.
According to a study carried out early in 2006 by the Institute for Employment
Studies and ICM Research, on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry, since
legislation was introduced in April 2003, 90 per cent of the 2,081 employees questioned
said they had at least one type of flexible working arrangement available to them."
